This week in class

This week in class, we are studying poetry. You ask, how can you study poetry? Well, you study its basics, like exaggerattion, hhyperbole, onomatopoeia etc. No, I”m not giving you the definitions. Anyway, we were supposed to make posters and present it. Mine was idiom, sort of like a figure of speech. My examples were “happy as a horse in a stable”,”pushing up daisies (means your dead), and “butterflies in your stomach”. I ended up drawing a dead horse in a stable holding daisies with butterflies in his stomach. Well, that was this week in class.

WIT themes

Posted on April 15th, 2008 in Wrinkle in Time by 13aterrien

Out of all the themes in Wrinkle in Time, I say that good vs evil and family loyalty are the biggest ones.

The reason I say its good vs evil is becaause Meg and co. are trying to battle the Black Thing and IT. They have to destroy the evil surrounding Camazotz and other planets. Also it talks about how other people in the past aat Earth have been fighting their own black thing through the years. Also, Meg has to fight IT and save CW (Charles Wallace) from the power of IT.

Family Loyalty is also a big part of the book. After all, it all starts with Meg and co. trying to save her father from Camazotz. And at the end, she has to battle IT to save her brother, CW. Through out the book there are scenes where Family Loyalty are is the only theme in the book. Thats why I think Family Loyalty is one of the most important ones.

So, that concludes my hypothesis. If there wass one, which would you choose?

Caravan Log

Posted on March 5th, 2008 in Islam Unit by 13aterrien

Here is another caravan log for our Islam Unit.

Do you know what Ramadan is?No? I can understand that, because if you haven’t heard about it, you’ve probably never seen it or been around it. It’s a Muslim holiday, in which they are not allowed to eat or drink during the sun is up. You might think it’s weird, but you go through something like it every day! They fast (don’t eat or drink) to show their dedication towards Allah (Muslim Almighty God). It’s like trying out for a baseball team or chess team, or any other team that takes dedication for that matter. It’s also like taking a test. If you break your fast, you get a low grade and try again. If you don’t, you get a good grade. Now you see what I mean? And they’re not really starving themselves, they eat and drink all they need before and after sunset, so it’s really not bad. Well, that does it for my caravan log, I hope you read my next one!

Caravan Log

Posted on February 24th, 2008 in Islam Unit by 13aterrien

This is a log I will post every other day while I do the Islam Unit. It is a log of what I learned that day. They are facts that you probably wouldn’t learn every day.

Here is my caravan log, with facts you porbably didn’t know.

First, here are some facts about jinns, or demons. Did you kow that they are created from fire, and can be good or bad. They look like the devil.

As you know, Jesus acsended into heaven after returning from the dead. Well, the Prophet Muhammed descended from Jerusalem. Also, did you know that Jerusalem is a major city in Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, one of the three largest religions in the world.

Ever wondered where the guitar came from? Did the Native Americans make it? The Europians? The Africans? Nope. The Arabs did. They brougt the guitar to the West. Don’t you just love imports?

Want to go to the mall? The store? Want to know what a mall is in the Middle East? Well, it’s called a bazaar. Cool name, huh?

Finally, the last fact. Jesus saw visions from God at a very early age, did he not? Well, the Prophet Muhammed saw visions from God at 40 years old. Well, thats it for my caravan log. See ya.

Wrinkle in Time Questions from the Book

Posted on February 20th, 2008 in Wrinkle in Time by 13aterrien

These are questions from the book “A Wrinkle In Time”. This is an assignment assigned by my teacher Mr. R. These are the questions and answers.

What thoughts do you have about Meg’s personality as you read these chapters?

Her personality changes throughout the book. First, she feels like a misfit, picking fights, feeling down, and downright dumped. Then she gets more anxious as Charles Wallace gets more…weird. Then gets even more anxious when she meets Mrs. Who, Which, and Whatsit. She gets emotional when she meets Calvin, and gets downright scared when she leaves Earth. The longer she’s away from Earth, the more brave and determined she gets.

Why is Meg unhappy at school?

I think Meg is unhappy at school because she is different and doesn’t fit in. Some people call her a misfit. She is always teased about her family, which makes her rough, which is even worse for her. I just think she is misuderstood.

How and why does Calvin fit in with the Murry family?

Calvin fit in when the Murry family saw he was unloved by his family and when Meg saw he had powers similar to Charles Wallace (another character), she wanted him to be a part of them. Calvin fits in because he has the same attitude and perspective of the Murry family. He also sees that they arn’t just a bunch of weirdos like the other kids say.

Where and why do Calvin, Charles Wallace, and Meg go with Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which?

The gang go with the Mrs. W’s because Meg and Charles Wallace are going to find their father and Calvin is told that they will need his powers along the way.

In your opinion, why do the three children accept the three Mrs. W’s instead of fear them?

I think they don’t fear them because Charles Wallace says they are really nice and the atmoshpere they give off is really calming and nice. They convince them in a nice way that they will show them and get them their (Meg and CW) father.

I what ways does Meg seem like any other young person? In what ways are her feelings similar to yours?

She is like any other person because lots of people feel left out and hurt and lots of people want the fathers they lost back. Her feelings are very similar to mine at some time. Lots of times I feel left out of the world and just want to get out and take it on others. She’s rough, and I’m rough. I have a temper like hers too. She is a lot like me.

Lets imagine your a guidance councelor at Meg’s school. Here’s a letter AI would write to the parents.

Dear Mrs. Murry

I believe that Meg can do better. She is very bright but doesn’t show it. She beats up boys and roughs up girls. I believe somethings wrong. Maybe it’s her father’s disappearance has something to do with it. You must help her calm down, PLEASE!

A Wrinkle In Time Science-Fiction Fantasy Story

Posted on February 20th, 2008 in Wrinkle in Time by 13aterrien

This story is a science-fiction and fantasy story using the elements building “A Wrinkle in Time”. This is near a place called Dubai, in a camp in the middle east, so you can imagine it as a hot, sandy place. Actually, we were in a mountainous place, just to let you know. Enjoy!

The TRUE Goat-Man

One day, in the valley near the North Star camp, me and some friends were walking together in a line. The temperature was just right. Around me were the brown mountains of the UAE. Trees were spread out. The patches of green grass made the scene delightful. We walked through the dirt and grass, heading back, talking and blabbering.
Then, we heard a noise behind us, a claca-claca-claca-claca behind us, and a faint hip-hip-hip-hip. We turned around. AAAARGGG!!! I couldn’t believe it. The Goat-Man stood right in front of us. Instead of the Pan look, only the legs goat, he was more like a centaur, the bottom body a goat, then a ripped body of a man. Then next to him was what looked like his son. The Goat-Man was wearing what looked like Darth Vader’s mask, and his kid wore an incredibly small hat.
“HaHaHa! I can’t believe it! The world will finally be gone!” He took out what looked to be a sniper and shot at us. Luckily, I was in the back of the line, and dodged it. To bad for the others though.
“Why will the world be gone?!” I shouted. Bad mistake.
“Who said? Ah, obviously you survived. If you must know, it starts here…
“It all began when I was born. I started eating grass. And more. And more. And more until I got crazy! Then, I started eating goats and other farm animals. Too easy to kill, and are real chewy. I wanted game. So I started to eat panthers and cheetahs and hyenas. If you think you killed ‘em of, go back to school. Anyway, I got bored of Earth food. So I said to myself “Kill the Earthlings!” Me mum’s have Pluto. So I hijacked a plane to the USA and broke into NASA headquarters. Superhuman strength rules I tell ya. Any way, I found a top secret space portal and went to a galaxy far far away” explained the Goat-Man.
“Are you a loonatic?” I screamed. I couldn’t believe this. Then I went unconscious. I woke up on a ship. The place was swarming with people with grayish greenish uniforms with small hats. Weird. Then the Goat-Man’s kid came up to me and took me to the controls room.
“Ah, you woke up. Come to me and I will show how I will destroy the world,” said the Goat-Man.
“Hey, we’re heading towards our own moon!” I exclaimed.
“That’s no moon, that’s a station…” said the Goat-Man.
“Ya, that’s a…”
My heart missed a beat. I couldn’t breathe. That was… The Death Star. THE DEATH STAR?! Oh my god!
“I forgot to tell you. When I went in the space portal, I went to a galaxy far far away. I saw this huge station. People said it could blow up a planet. Perfect. I took out Darth Vader and took his suit and took over the Death Star. How I hid my rear is none of your business. I brought it to Earth and now I plan to blow it up!” explained the Goat-Man. His reason was terrible, his actions were terrible, and his breath was terrible. And we’re all gonna die!
“Fire at will!” shouted the Goat-Man.
Firing in five(oooh)four(glurk)three(Aaaah)two(AAAAAAAAAHHH!!!)one…
“Tony wake up! Time for breakfast!”

Islam Unit

Posted on February 18th, 2008 in Islam Unit by 13aterrien

This post is about what we’re doing in class. Since we’re doing the Islam unit, the best way to study it is to be it. So I’m going to give a couple opinions and questions about the unit, remember, unit.

This coming unit we are going to act like muslims. We’re going to live like the nomads, trading, working, answering questions, making money, and even bringing in food they would have eaten.

I think this project is really neat  and is a great way to experiance the life of a nomadic muslim. It’s great fun and is a great way to interact with others. We even get a muslim name! I can’t wait to learn more, the muslim empire was bigger than the Roman you know. Living like a muslim in class will be very unique.

I have a couple questions to ask about the Islam unit. One, how did the muslims take over such a large amount of land? Two, what is their culture like? And three, how did they manage their empire? I hope to learn these in the near future.
