Caravan Log

Here is another caravan log for our Islam Unit.

Do you know what Ramadan is?No? I can understand that, because if you haven’t heard about it, you’ve probably never seen it or been around it. It’s a Muslim holiday, in which they are not allowed to eat or drink during the sun is up. You might think it’s weird, but you go through something like it every day! They fast (don’t eat or drink) to show their dedication towards Allah (Muslim Almighty God). It’s like trying out for a baseball team or chess team, or any other team that takes dedication for that matter. It’s also like taking a test. If you break your fast, you get a low grade and try again. If you don’t, you get a good grade. Now you see what I mean? And they’re not really starving themselves, they eat and drink all they need before and after sunset, so it’s really not bad. Well, that does it for my caravan log, I hope you read my next one!

Caravan Log

This is a log I will post every other day while I do the Islam Unit. It is a log of what I learned that day. They are facts that you probably wouldn’t learn every day.

Here is my caravan log, with facts you porbably didn’t know.

First, here are some facts about jinns, or demons. Did you kow that they are created from fire, and can be good or bad. They look like the devil.

As you know, Jesus acsended into heaven after returning from the dead. Well, the Prophet Muhammed descended from Jerusalem. Also, did you know that Jerusalem is a major city in Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, one of the three largest religions in the world.

Ever wondered where the guitar came from? Did the Native Americans make it? The Europians? The Africans? Nope. The Arabs did. They brougt the guitar to the West. Don’t you just love imports?

Want to go to the mall? The store? Want to know what a mall is in the Middle East? Well, it’s called a bazaar. Cool name, huh?

Finally, the last fact. Jesus saw visions from God at a very early age, did he not? Well, the Prophet Muhammed saw visions from God at 40 years old. Well, thats it for my caravan log. See ya.

Islam Unit

This post is about what we’re doing in class. Since we’re doing the Islam unit, the best way to study it is to be it. So I’m going to give a couple opinions and questions about the unit, remember, unit.

This coming unit we are going to act like muslims. We’re going to live like the nomads, trading, working, answering questions, making money, and even bringing in food they would have eaten.

I think this project is really neat  and is a great way to experiance the life of a nomadic muslim. It’s great fun and is a great way to interact with others. We even get a muslim name! I can’t wait to learn more, the muslim empire was bigger than the Roman you know. Living like a muslim in class will be very unique.

I have a couple questions to ask about the Islam unit. One, how did the muslims take over such a large amount of land? Two, what is their culture like? And three, how did they manage their empire? I hope to learn these in the near future.
